I began to like the Conner Murray character in his first book "Currency"; however, now that his character developed, you really like the guy. L. Todd Wood created a patriot, Or an accidental patriot, who unlike many other books, Conner is human and kind of like the rest of us. His powers are marred by cancer treatments. He has a beautiful girlfriend, but, given the opportunity, just maybe.........The plot follows modern day event. Which makes the book all that more real.I found myself blazing through the book. Now if only L. Todd Wood would write about The false narratives going on today, and an imbecilic NFL 2nd string quarterback Who was radicalized by a sexy Egyptian DJ. who turns him into an assassin. Naah nobody would believe that Leslie Nielsen and OJ Simpson did the movie already called Naked Gun.
Great Book, fun read!

After being amazed by his first novel, I was ready for a little letdown especially by a book named "Sugar"; however, it was every bit as suspenseful as the first. Wood ties so much true history, geography and politics together along with some fictional characters that I couldn't lay the book down until every word was read. The "coup de gras" however is the ending; home run #2.
I paused reading "Currency" just long enough to order "Sugar". I'm so glad I did! L. Todd Wood's books should be required reading in schools. The story line in these two books is frighteningly plausible and will make you fear for our future. I found myself holding my breath many times while reading these books and unable to pull myself away. Be prepared to get nothing accomplished once you begin and needing time to recover once you finish reading these!
After reading L Todd Wood's great novel, CURRENCY, I knew that I wanted to read everything he writes; and I can assure you that SUGAR did not disappoint! I've always loved history, and Mr Wood has found a magic formula blending history and intriguing characters in a captivating work of fiction. The ending will literally blow your socks off it did mine as I jumped up fist-pumping while yelling, "YES!" Five Stars; Recommend Highly!
Another incredible novel by L. Todd Wood. This book is the 2nd in a series that follows Connor Murray around the globe as he attempts to foil the enemies of the United States. "Currency", the first in the series is pure genius, and so it is very hard for me to say that "Sugar" is better, and yet it is! Some may find this work controversial, which no doubt adds to its appeal. But no matter where you stand on the controversy, you will be SHOCKED. This work is simply more pure genius from L. Todd Wood...
Sugar takes us from the far past to the pages of today's world news! It's a novel that is hard to stop and take a break from reading until the breathtaking and surprising last page reveal. You'll find yourself angry, excited, sad and yet rooting for the main characters while being drawn into the narrative. A wonderful and exciting second novel by Mr Wood. Will read a second time to catch what I missed the first time through...
Sugar is the second book by L. Todd Wood to feature his hero Connor Murray. The first book, Currency, introduces the reader to the world of finance and was quite intersting. Despite having a significant historical element Currency provided an excellent, and somewhat frighting look at the current financial status of the United States. I would recommend reading Currency before reading Sugar primarily for the excellent background it provides on Connor Murray, the main character in both books. Having said that Sugar stands alone and it can be read on a stand alone basis without any difficulty in understanding the story.
Like his first book, Sugar begins with an extensive historical background which helps set the stage for the story but unfortunately moves somewhat slowly and lacks the excitement found in later chapters once we again catch up with Connor Murray. The historical background is rather long taking the first eleven chapters but it is well worth slogging through. Basically you learn a bit about Islamic history in the middle east and also about the slave trade in the west indies necessitated by the production of sugar.
In chapter twelve we are reacquainted (assuming you read “Currency”) with Connor Murray and the story picks up the pace from that point.
Unlike his first book Sugar has little or nothing to do with finance. Instead it explores the real threat our country faces from Muslim extremists. It is a novel and thus purely fictional but the threat described does exist and, as pointed out in the story, the American public is seemingly ignorant of the situation and our political leaders do very little to make us aware. In fact our current President seems almost to be on the other side having once said that he would ‘stand with the Muslims.’
Aside from the fact that the story is frightenly close to reality is is an excellent adventure story with a well thought out plot. I would recommend reading the book for the exciting story alone but hope readers will open their eyes a bit to the real danger our country faces.
And please note the ending is very thought provoking.
This is the 2nd book in L. Todd Wood's Connor Murray series. An historical novel, it mixes fact with fictional characters and likely outcomes that give you a very enjoyable read and a dose of education at the same time. If you've ever wondered about the sugar trade and how it might have possibly grown into other economic and social areas, here's a great opportunity to do just that. As I said, nothing like having the chance to read for pleasure and pick up a little more education along the way.
I'm always leery of writing about a book's plot, so let me simply tell you, if you enjoyed the twists, turns and writing in "Currency", you'll find "Sugar" to be a very welcome addition to your personal library.
